Stereo Soldier is a song by Little Mix which appears as the fifth track on their debut album DNA.
Critical Reception[]
Popdust writer Andrew Unterberger stated: "After three straight ballads drained all the pep out of DNA after its explosive lead track, “Stereo Soldier” provides some much-needed exuberance back to the album, again courtesy of the TMS production team, who based on their work on this album should be some of the most in-demand producers in pop the next few years. An appropriately militaristic beat peppered with distorted horns and some quality cowbelling, with the group’s gorgeous harmonies laid on top, the song even comes close to a British approximation of Beyonce’s Afrobeat-indebted “End of Time,” which is nearly as cool as it sounds. (The group also seems to quote Bey’s “So in looooooove” sigh from “Party,” so perhaps they were just listening to a whole lot of 4 at the time.)
The lyrics are a little ridiculous–”You’re my stereo soldier” is a good thing, we guess?–but the group has a fun time trying to sell it with the song’s “Left! Right!” backing vocals, and after the occasionally overbearing seriousness of the previous three songs, a little silliness is a more-than-welcome presence."[1]
